ANIMATING SPACES - FORUM MAY 23
Animating Spaces Forum – An exciting event for Redland’s art community will take place at 7pm Wednesday May 23 at Yurara Art Society Gallery, Pinklands Reserve, Thornlands.
Redlands has been selected as one of five regional communities across Queensland to partner with Artslink Queensland to participate in Animating Spaces 2013, and will co-host a community engagement workshop on May 23 with Artslink’s Creative Communities Director Letitia Norton to further develop the prospective partnership.
This follows an Expression of Interest submission by Redlands Arts Council along with Redland City Council, and Redland Creative Alliance in early March, to participate in a proposed Animating Spaces Project, to revitalise regional communities through the arts in 2013.
The forum will share the Animating Spaces concept to the wider community, the process of partnership development and how the project could work, further partnership development with some stimuli and possible ideas, and in particular to have the community share their ideas, meet each other and ask questions. Written submissions can also be submitted on the night.
At this workshop Artslink will also be looking to identify people interested to drive particular projects and will speak a little about Artslink Queensland. For catering purposes please phone Susan Russell on 3286 2927 if you are attending, and please bring a fold-up chair as seating is limited at the gallery.
CLEVELAND BUZZ - Reinvigorating the Village
Its all about bringing the Arts to Bloomfield Street. Shop window Art wanted! See poster on this page.
Bloomfield Street businesses are invited to engage artists to decorate and enliven their shopfronts in the lead up to the Cleveland BUZZ happening on Saturday 16 June.
Imagine the whole street with creative shopfronts such as paper cutouts, stencils, sculptures, installations, painted glass, even performance or projection pieces. Thas the plan.
How it works…
The artworks must have no permanent impact on the building, should remain in place until 2pm 16 June and require design/concept approval by the business owner before commencement.
Participating traders will pay an artist fee of $100 for the work and some materials will be provided by Cleveland BUZZ.
We are also now calling for expression of interest from artists wanting to take part in BUZZ … opportunities so far include:
• Bloomfield St businesses are being invited to engage artists to decorate and enliven their shop fronts.
• Street performers and buskers.
• creative writers and artists for residencies or workshops.
• A static art display in an empty shop front window in the lead up to the BUZZ culminating with an auction on 16 June or at works.

EXCITING DRAMA COMES TO THE REDLANDS
AND YOU’RE INVITED!
Are you sick of the time taken and the cost of travelling to Brisbane to see a show?
Then let’s bring fine drama to RPAC and make it a regular feature of entertainment in the Redlands.
Redlands Arts Council is delighted to announce the exciting concept of a theatre appreciation group for all those interested in furthering the dramatic arts in our city.
Join us at RPAC for the first of these plays, The Weather and Your Health, an intimate two hander play nominated for two Greenroom Awards and written and produced by young Australian playwright Bethany Simons’, at RPAC on Saturday, 14th April at 2pm or 7.30pm, followed by Chasing the Lollyman on July 7.
A great performance and enjoyable evening was had by all with Bethany Simons, and a small but enthusiastic group has now formed a theatre appreciation group - yet to be named.
The second in the series is Chasing the Lollyman by Debase Productions at the concert hall on Saturday July 7, 7.30pm.
Mark Sheppard is performer/writer. It is a one man show devised and performed by one of Queensland's most dynamic and funny performers. It is a joyous sharing of stories, a celebration of urban indigenous identity and takes a satricial look at the media and popular culture.
Adults $26, Seniors/Pensions $22 RPAC 38298131. www.rpac.com.au
Come along and meet with others of a similar interest. After the show we’ll meet again and discuss further opportunities to further the dramatic arts in the Redlands.
To register your interest, either email or phone, Chad Sherrin, on chad(_AT_)thestoryteller.net.au or 0416 192 303.
