Enhancing life and culture in the Redlands by promoting the Arts and Artists

Redlands Arts Council (RAC) was established in 1991 as a branch of the Queensland Arts Council (QAC) becoming incorporated in 1995.  The organisation is run by a volunteer committee elected by the membership, and continues to operate under the umbrella of the QAC receiving many benefits including Public Liability insurance cover for our gazetted events.  We are one of 60 local arts councils (LAC’s) supporting the arts across Queensland.

The Arts Council supports and promotes the arts and cultural activities in the Redland City for the benefit of the whole community.  It works to enhance the social and economic development of the district, and nurtures the rapidly growing arts community by providing opportunities for paid employment.

Arts Council assists individuals and organisations in facilitating arts projects.  It arranges workshops, exhibitions, performances and cultural events such as the BA-LONN Community Arts Festival established in 2004, the popular “Classics Close Up” series with Leanne Swanson, and the RAC Jazz Tent at the Redlands Spring Festival.  The Redland City Council Mayor and RAC have been partners for many years in presenting firstly the “Lady Mayoress Charity Ball” (7yrs); the “Redlands Spectacular” (6yrs); and more recently “Redlands on Stage” which highlights and supports the work of the Redland Eisteddfod.

We have also focused on providing opportunities for young people in the Arts; musicians, dancers, painters, poets, writers and photographers.  Some deserving students have been assisted with their studies both within Australia and overseas through our Youth Development Bursary Fund which has been particularly gratifying for the Arts Council.
